1. Who are GetYourGuide & Why Use Them?

Get Your Guide is based in Berlin - the company provides an established 'global online marketplace' for researching and booking localised guided tours, attraction tickets, tourist activities and day excursions.

GetYourGuide works together with selected global activity providers, they also provide their own organised guided tours - known as GetYourGuide Originals.

We found the GetYourGuide platform makes it easy to 'advance book' global sightseeing attractions and visitor experiences. The GetYourGuide website is uncluttered and well-designed and is full of interesting ideas and suggestions; these include recommended global activities, top sights, planning guides, most recommended tours, insider tips, plus customer "what people say" reviews.

2. What type of Tickets & Guided Tours does Get Your Guide offer?

Planning a holiday adventure or cultural city break can sometimes seem complex; this is especially true when searching for ideas on what to 'see and do' when you arrive. I believe advanced research and planning are vital to help maximise your enjoyment potential; however, I accept that some like to travel spontaneously and prefer to make last-minute decisions - which is okay too.

In my opinion, the Get Your Guide search system is one of the most comprehensive global 'research and ticketing' platforms currently available - it enables users to search, identify and book from a wide range of global activities and experiences. These include (skip-the-line) entry tickets to museums, art galleries and theme parks.

GYG also offer public and private guided tours, such as small group city food tasting tours, day trips to National Parks (including transport and meals), plus off-the-beaten-track tours. We found the number of tour options to be quite impressive. Below is a list of some of the tours and activities we found during our review.

Paris Metro Ticket

GetYourGuide services:

  • Skip the Ticket Line Entry
  • Guided City Tours
  • Culture & History Tours
  • Bus & Minivan Tours
  • Architecture Tours
  • City Audio Guided Tours
  • Theme & Amusement Park Tickets
  • Self-Guided & Photography Tours
  • Sightseeing Bus Tours
  • Landmarks & Monuments Tours
  • Food & Wine Tasting Tours
  • Airport Transfers

There's a handy customer review section, plus free “know before you go” travel guides.

3. How does Get Your Guide work?

The GYG platform acts as a middleman connecting travellers with local tour providers, tourist venues, local attraction ticket providers and other travel-related services.

During our research - we found the price you pay GYG - tends to be similar to the price you would pay directly to the service provider or venue.

Using the website: (If you like using filters, you're in for a treat). The GetYourGuide website and app are super easy and fun to use - start by entering your destination at the top of the page. You're then presented with a 'colourful & comprehensive' listing of popular tourist activities and tours - compiled just for your chosen destination. Next, select a category or attraction type for more tour options - or select the filters option and start narrowing down your exact requirements.

During our review of GYG, we searched for available activities in London - the search returned over 800 possible attractions plus over 50 filter options. The filters were easy to select and worked well to deliver our exact search requirements - our 3 favourite and most helpful filter options include:

  • Interests Filter - for local culture, city sightseeing, architecture & art.
  • Categories Filter - for entry tickets only, guided tours, private tours, day trips, hop-on hop-off tours and local adventures.
  • Services Filter - for hotel pickup tours, skip the line, small group and GetYourGuide Originals.

Top Tip 1: Enter your destination into the search - before you start checking out what's on offer, scroll to the bottom of the page to the "Frequently Asked Questions" and "Insider Tips & Planning". These sections provide good ideas on what to see and do. They can also help you plan and choose the right experiences for you and your party. The types of tips we found for our search included: London's hidden gems worth seeing? and What should I do on my first trip to London? - when finished reading, scroll back up to see what's on offer.

Top Tip 2: When you see something you like - click on any tour or activity for more details. Details include attraction highlights, meeting point options, customer reviews, cancellation policy and booking options.

4. What are the Good and Bad (pros & cons) about using GetYourGuide?

In our opinion, there are many advantages and just a few disadvantages to using the service. The main advantage is the scale and convenience of being able to research and book multiple attraction tickets and tours within one website.

Below is a list of the main advantages we found when using GetYourGuide:

  • We found the website a joy to use - it has a clean & fresh design and an easy-to-complete search. Both the tour and entry ticket availability were well presented in an easy-to-understand format - making the selection and booking process easy to complete.
  • Each tour and attraction had a detailed description, some tours were pinned with a "Likely To Sell Out" notice - for those tours and tickets that book up quickly. There's also a comprehensive customer review platform advising on the experiences of other users.
  • We found that GetYourGuide has effective filters to help narrow down your search. You can also 'sort and select' results to display by Recommended, Price or Rating.
  • You can sign up for the GetYourGuide newsletter for promotional news and special offers. There's also a “best price guarantee” - if you find a cheaper price for your tour, they will refund the difference, subject to T&Cs.
  • For products and services that support mobile tickets, tour and ticket entry details can be sent directly to your mobile device. This allows you to display the ticket on your phone which saves having to print off the ticket.
  • Many tours and activities offer availability up to the last minute. So if you find yourself in a long queue waiting to buy an entry ticket, get out your phone and book online, download your ticket and you are good to go (subject to availability, T&Cs).
  • You can pay for your sightseeing experiences using multiple currencies (as indicated on the GYG website). There's also a generous cancellation policy up to 24 hours before the start, which is good if you need to be flexible.
  • We found there to be no additional booking fees. In many cases, we found you pay no more in ticket price compared to booking directly with the venue.

Below is a list of the slight disadvantages we found when searching with GetYourGuide:

  • We noticed (when searching for much lesser-known destinations) that the results page displayed tours not connected to the destination requested. It would perhaps be better for GYG to return a destination not featured or not available in this instance - just a minor thing really.
  • With some searches, you have to use filters. When searching for a particular (popular or major) attraction, multiple available options may be displayed - so be prepared to read each tour description carefully to check what's included and if it fits your needs. We searched for the Louvre Museum, and 212 possible attraction options were offered. We found using the Categories and Services filters helped to narrow down the search to a more reasonable level of choice - again, just a minor thing.
  • Please note! Do your own research into the suitability of services provided by GetYourGuide. For more detailed tour-related feedback & experiences (from a customer use viewpoint), Holiday4 recommends accessing the customer reviews at TripAdvisor and Google.

Benefit highlights: Payment can be made in multiple currencies. Tours that book up quickly display a pinned "Likely To Sell Out" banner. There's a “best price guarantee” on tours. We liked the search filter system and the FAQs & Insider Tips sections at the bottom of each search result page.

5. Can you combine attraction tickets and save?

During our review, we found that GetYourGuide offered a good selection of combined attractions bundled into one tour price. We also found the 'combined package of attractions' often complemented each other well, providing a convenient and sometimes unique visitor experience.

To help find combined tours and activities GYG has a search filter called "Bundles" listed under the Categories filter option. On a recent search for Paris, we found 55 combined activities using the Bundles filter - below is a list of our favourite combined tours of Paris.

If you need further information on combined ticket deals, check out the Tiqets Review Guide and their Hand-Picked Combinations for ideas.

Paris Eiffel Tower

Combined Paris attractions:

  • Louvre Museum and Seine Cruise.
  • Musée d'Orsay Entry and Seine Cruise.
  • Montmartre Cheese, Wine & Pastry Guided Walking Tour.
  • Champs Elysées Bus Tour + 5-Course Dinner & Champagne.
  • Evening Sightseeing Tour and Moulin Rouge Show.
  • Eiffel Tower Access w/ Audioguide and Cruise.
  • Eiffel Tower Tour, Arc de Triomphe, and Cruise combined.

Top Tip: Before booking a combined or bundled tour check the details for times, ticket validity and any possible restrictions.

6. What Destinations are covered by GetYourGuide?

Get Your Guide has over 60,000 activities to choose from - it also offers services in the following popular destinations:
